Top 10 Video Game Trailers From Sony's Paris Games Week Event

Here Are Top 10 Game Trailers From Sony's Paris Games Week Event.

Sony showed off a bunch of games this Monday at Paris Games Week. Some are new, some are just new trailers, and some are more exciting than others. I've picked ten new trailers from PGW that are the cream of the crop.

We'll start with perhaps the most controversial of the bunch...

1. The Last Of Us Part II

I'll be honest, I'm not sure how to feel about this new Last of Us 2 trailer. It's beyond grim. The violence is frankly a little upsetting. It makes me worry that the sequel to one of the PS3's best twilight releases will be overly dark and gritty. Sometimes I just can't handle that. What made the first game great is that it really was about this bond formed between Joel and Ellie. It was about love; the sequel, according to its creators, is about hate. Before you watch this one, just realize that it's kind of hard to stomach.

2. Marvel's Spider-Man

Spider-Man is a good palette-cleanser after the ultra-violence of The Last Of Us 2. This looks like a fantastic action superhero game. It's been a long time since we got a decent Spidey game, which makes this even more exciting. Actually, Peter Parker is kind of on a role these days. I loved the recent film, and this looks like a great video game version with a good story and fun mechanics.

3. Ghosts of Tsushima

This was a very pleasant surprise. From the makers of the Infamous games we get this splendid looking Samurai title, though we see very little in the way of gameplay in this announcement trailer. Still, Samurai adventure with the menace of the Mongol horde to contend with sounds like my kind of game.

4, Monster Hunter World

I've never really gotten into the Monster Hunter games, having only dabbled with them in the past. Will Monster Hunter World change that? I suppose that depends on the game. It's a cool trailer, though, and I love that there's an Aloy skin for PS4 gamers.

5. Far Cry 5 Co-Op Trailer

I'm a big fan of the Far Cry games, going all the way back to the very first one and those amazing binoculars that could listen in on enemy conversations. Far Cry 5 is especially exciting since it takes place in Montana, the state I was born in. This time around you can play all the missions with a friend in co-op. That's not new to the series, but it's a great feature and I aim to make use of it when the game comes out next February.

6. The Hong Kong Massacre

A stylish top-down twin-thumb shooter that looks a bit like a cross between Hotline Miami and Max Payne, The Hong Kong Massacre looks terrific. Also, those are two pretty great games to mash up.

7. Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds

It's an expansion to a game that took place mostly in a futuristic Southwest---arid deserts, lots of sun---that takes Aloy further north into the cold wintry Northwest. It looks like more of the same but with snow. That's fine. For fans of the action-adventure game from the makers of Killzone, more of the same is exactly what they've asked for.

8. Destiny 2 - Curse of Osiris Expansion

Destiny 2 players will get their first expansion soon in the form of Curse of Osiris. It looks like pretty much exactly what you'd expect from Bungie's shared-world shooter: Lots of lofty stuff about powerful heroes and larger-than-life threats to the future of humanity. Osiris sounds like an odd duck. I'm always happy for more Destiny story content.

9. God Of War

I wrote about this yesterday, but I'm sort of conflicted about the new God of War. The series needed a reboot, but this looks awfully similar to something like The Last Of Us, which is sort of odd. I guess I would personally prefer a reboot that made it more like a more combo-friendly Demon's Souls, with a camera that was still drawn back a bit more, but control over the camera rather than fixed. Also that kid talks a lot.

10. Shadow Of The Colossus

I can't believe how gorgeous this remake looks. I loved the PS2 game, so I can't wait to play it on the PS4 in all its splendor. It's truly a sight to behold. The titular colossi are going to be amazing in 4K/60 fps.
There are several other games I'm not listing here in the "best of" list. While these interest me, they're either very limited trailers or just not very high on my list. For instance, the new Detroit: Become Human trailer is certainly interesting, but I feel more negative than positive about it overall (based partly on my experience with past David Cage video games.) The new Call of Duty: World War II trailer is merely one map. You get the picture.

What games are you looking forward to in 2018?
